FF6 is a kaleidoscopic anthology of different characters: Locke the lone wolf
with a heart, Celes the engineered sufferer, Sabin and Edgar the polar opposite
princes, Setzer the risky gambler with sights on an opera singer, Shadow the
lone wolf with a heart, Terra the half-human esper and most likely candidate for
protagonist, Gogo the enigma, Mog the cute animal, Gau the lost child so-called
noble savage, Cyan the honorable knight without a brain for the machanics, Relm
and Strago young and old companions, and Umaro a yeti.
FF6 is a bit overrated in my opinion, but upon further playing, I've found that
its depiction of Kefka merits as a precursor to Sephiroth, however without the
intensity of vision. The view of Kefka during the final battle reminds us of
the final form of Sephiroth in FF7, the angel that fell from grace. In some
sense, Terra is the opposite, the humanoid device reared for destruction that
learned to love by living on earth with earthlings (hence her name, meaning
earth).
To be continued.
